Graveyard Keeper 2 Umami: Runes, Recipes, and How to Use It

Umami is the alchemy seasoning every Graveyard Keeper 2 cook ends up farming. Its rune signature is 0 red / 4 green / 4 blue, and its job is simple but valuable: at the kitchen table, one Umami upgrades a silver (two-star) dish or drink into its gold (three-star) version — roughly doubling the value of the food you already make.

Umami runes and the laboratory

Umami is a three-ingredient craft with rune totals of 0R 4G 4B. You need a laboratory with three ingredient slots and the alchemy technology that unlocks advanced recipes (“Alchemy, Advanced”). Remember that ingredient grades matter: a bronze ingredient does not carry the same runes as its silver or gold version, so the mixes below assume the ingredients as listed.

Verified Umami mixes

Because alchemy matches rune totals rather than fixed ingredient lists, any combination that sums to 4 green and 4 blue works. Verified examples from the community wiki:

MixRune math
Flour + Hops + Alcohol4G 4B
Hops + Night Flower + HoneyHops 4G + Night Flower 2B + Honey 2G 2B = 4G 4B
Alcohol + Fragrance + Ash4G 4B (reported by multiple players)

The rune math is why the second mix works: Honey carries 2 green and 1 blue, Night Flower carries 2 blue, and Hops carries the full 4 green — together exactly 4G/4B. Once you can read rune values on the study table, you can build your own mixes from whatever your farm produces.

What Umami does at the kitchen table

Use one Umami while cooking to upgrade a silver dish into its gold version. Confirmed upgrades include:

Gold dishes sell for substantially more and restore more energy, which makes Umami one of the best value-per-craft products in the alchemy tree.

Umami as a money maker

Umami itself sells for 11 silver 25 bronze at the Alchemist (at level 3 reputation). Given its cheap ingredient chain — flour from grain, hops and honey from farming, alcohol from the distillery — brewing Umami in bulk for sale is a steady silver income once your farm is running. See the money guide for how vendor deflation affects bulk selling.

Use the rune finder to check your own ingredient totals.
